September Newsletter

Greetings,

We are finishing up the summer months, moving into September and soon after, the fall.

Last month, we mentioned that the FCC designated 9-8-8 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. We wanted to clarify that the number is not currently active, but has a goal of completion by July of 2022. Please continue to share the following number until the 9-8-8 project is complete: 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

September is an important month to us, it is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Reyne, Scott and their family have used the Jackson Roeder Memorial Fund as a vehicle to support suicide prevention and mental health awareness in Central Minnesota. They work closely with CentraCare and their implementation of the Zero Suicide Model throughout the CentraCare system and Central Minnesota. Throughout the month, keep a look out for the following billboards around the St. Cloud area that show our support of suicide prevention. These billboards are funded by the Jackson Roeder Memorial Fund.

This past spring, CentraCare hosted their annual employee campaign which focused on suicide prevention. Throughout the campaign, employees raised money for the CentraCare Suicide Prevention Fund. This was the first time CentraCare designated funds to this important cause. As we know these are difficult times, but the employees saw this as a vital cause and raised over $300,000.

Another supporter of suicide prevention is Marco, the organization Scott works for. Last year, Marco and the St. Cloud Rox teamed up to raise over $25,000 for suicide prevention with a baseball game fundraiser. This year, Marco is supporting the cause with their #YouMatter social campaign. During their campaign, they will raise money through social media engagement and a donation will be made to the Jackson Roeder Memorial Fund to support our efforts of suicide prevention. Be sure to “like” Marco on social media to help raise money for this important cause.

Also in September, the Roeder family will be teaming up with Beaver Island Brewing Company for the Tending for a Cause event. The event takes place on Wednesday, September 30th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Come on down and have a beer with us. All proceeds from the night will go to the Jackson Roeder Memorial Fund. We will also have paintings on display. The paintings will include the recently discovered, The Dancing Girl, and our new addition, a painting of Bob Marley. During the event, we will have materials on mental health and suicide prevention.

Finally, we wanted to share a few pictures showcasing the colors of the causes we support. As you can see in the picture, Scott wears four different wristbands that remind him of Jackson and the causes we support in remembrance of him.

Yellow: This is the color of suicide prevention and the wristband from AFSP (American Federation of Suicide Prevention).

Blue: This wristband is from Active Minds. Active Minds is a peer group of college and high school students that support each other for suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

Green: This is the color for mental health awareness and the wristband is from Marco in support of last year’s baseball event.

White: This band is from the LIVIN Foundation out of Elk River. Unfortunately, their annual music event in September has been canceled due to COVID-19. They raise money for suicide prevention and mental health awareness and the color white represents suicide loss of a child.
